Rotary Orientation and District Conference

On 18-20 March 2011, the Rotary Scholar’s Orientation was held at Bay Plaza, Wellington. Attending the orientation were scholars from France, Austria, USA, Germany, Hong Kong, Trinidad and Tobago and New Zealand. The scholars from overseas were all Ambassadorial Scholars whereas the Kiwi contingent were Peace Fellows (Mary Stanley and myself) and Vocational Scholars.  It was a real pleasure brainstorming with this bunch of talented and energetic youth, particularly as we all shared the desire to change our communities for the better.

A week after the orientation, Rotary District 9940 held its annual District Conference at Wairakei Resort in Taupo. Although I did not attend the full conference, I spoke on the last day, sharing about myself, my passions and dreams and about the Peace Fellowship in Chulalongkorn University.

I highly recommend all those wishing to further their studies, to check out Rotary website for scholarships.
Those living in New Zealand can check out the Rotary District 9940 website:  http://www.rotary9940.org.nz/Foundation/Scholarships.aspx .

If you have a passion for peace building or conflict resolution, there are also several Rotary Peace Centres around the world although only one (Chulalongkorn University) provides the 3 month intensive/practical course. http://www.rotary.org/en/StudentsAndYouth/EducationalPrograms/RotaryCentersForInternationalStudies/Pages/ridefault.aspx
